HH Heart Center Expands Award Winning Cardiac Care To Children
September 05 , 2024
Local dignitaries, hospital leadership and physicians gathered for an open house and ribbon cutting for Huntsville Hospital’s newest pediatric care addition on Wednesday, September 4.
Huntsville Hospital Heart Center Pediatric Cardiology will provide North Alabama families with a new local treatment option for kids from birth to 18 years old with acute or chronic heart conditions.
While the region has been accustomed to receiving award-winning cardiac care for adults from the Huntsville Hospital Heart Center, the new clinic’s opening will enable the expansion of that same care to kids and teens.
Morgan Dennis, vice president of Huntsville Hospital’s Heart Center and Cardiovascular Service Line, stated at the ribbon cutting that twenty percent of Alabamians are under the age of 18, which equates to about 300,000 children in the Tennessee Valley alone.
“That’s a lot of hearts that need care,” said Dennis. “This increases the availability of pediatric cardiology for patients in North Alabama. Patients who would historically have needed to travel receive the care they need now have an additional provider option locally.”
Located halfway between Birmingham and Nashville, the Huntsville Hospital Heart Center takes its responsibility seriously as the primary provider of cardiac services for all ages across North Alabama.
With the opening of the new pediatric clinic, the Heart Center’s team now includes a total of 57 physicians working among its growing staff of physicians assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners and other professionals.
The new clinic is staffed by Drs. Daniel Caicedo and Kanya Singhapakdi, board-certified pediatricians with fellowship training in pediatric cardiology. Both Caicedo and Singhapakdi received their training in the South and look forward to continuing to serve the communities that they have spent the last several years learning in.
Dr. Singhapakdi completed her pediatric cardiology fellowship at Louisiana State University and her residency at the University of South Alabama. Dr. Caicedo recently completed his pediatric cardiology fellowship at The University of Mississippi Medical Center and residency at Harlem Hospital at Columbia University.
The clinic will begin seeing patients on Friday, September 6. It is located in Suite 101 on the bottom floor of the Huntsville Hospital Professional Tower, located at 420 Lowell Drive. Pediatric cardiology is now accepting physician referrals and self-referrals.
